How to Pack Wine Glasses for Moving

Wine glass stems snap under the slightest pressure. Here's the professional method our crew uses on every move.

Stemware is one of the most fragile things you'll move. The thin stem and delicate bowl mean that a little pressure in the wrong place — or a single hard bump on the road — can leave you sweeping up a favourite set. After 21 years of moving Victoria homes, our crew has packing stemware down to a repeatable routine that keeps breakage at virtually zero.

Watch the video above, then use the checklist below when you pack your own glasses.

The professional wine-glass packing checklist

  • Stuff a piece of tissue or packing paper inside the bowl for internal support before you wrap.
  • Wrap the stem separately first, then wrap the whole glass in two sheets of packing paper.
  • Use a divided cardboard cell box made for stemware — it stops glasses from knocking together.
  • Stand glasses upright and place the heaviest on the bottom of the box.
  • Fill any dead space with crumpled paper and label the box "FRAGILE — This Side Up."

Short on time, or moving a large collection? Our professional packing service handles fragile items like stemware, china and artwork start to finish — fully wrapped, boxed and insured.
