Stemware is one of the most fragile things you'll move. The thin stem and delicate bowl mean that a little pressure in the wrong place — or a single hard bump on the road — can leave you sweeping up a favourite set. After 21 years of moving Victoria homes, our crew has packing stemware down to a repeatable routine that keeps breakage at virtually zero.
Watch the video above, then use the checklist below when you pack your own glasses.
The professional wine-glass packing checklist
- Stuff a piece of tissue or packing paper inside the bowl for internal support before you wrap.
- Wrap the stem separately first, then wrap the whole glass in two sheets of packing paper.
- Use a divided cardboard cell box made for stemware — it stops glasses from knocking together.
- Stand glasses upright and place the heaviest on the bottom of the box.
- Fill any dead space with crumpled paper and label the box "FRAGILE — This Side Up."
